Reigning Champions, the USA, got the defence of their title off to a flying start with a 4-0 victory over a spirited Czechia team that put up a stubborn fight until the last quarter of the match, which saw the US score 3 late goals.

In the opening match of the tournament, Slovakia impressed in their 6-1 demolition of the Ukraine and made potential opponents in the knockout rounds sit up and take note.

In the only other match on the opening day, Romania lost their first ever match in the Women’s World Cup, 11-0, against a hugely talented Mexico team who will take some stopping on todays performance.
